To be effective for labour birth pools are recommended to have a depth of water around 20inches deep with a safe height on the sides of the pool above water, so as not to collapse the pool or lose water over the sides from movement or leaning. Recommended by Barbara Harper - author of 'Gentle Birth Choices' and founder of Waterbirth International.
The pools are egg shaped, so you can choose a wide space or a more secure space depending on how you feel.
External max dimensions - 76" x 65", 193 x 165cm
Internal max dimensions - 56" x 45", 142 x 114cm
Internal depth - 26", 66cm
Rim width - 10", 25cm
Weight when filled - 650kg plus mother
(About the weight of 8 or 9 people sitting together)
Leave a little extra space (3 or 4 inches or so) aorund the outside of the pool because the pool will be a little wider when it's filled with water.
